Thirsty!
Posted by AndreaBlessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. (Matthew 5:6).
Sugar Plum is always thirsty! From the moment she wakes in the morning until the time she is put to bed each night, she is constantly calling, “Juice! Juice, Mommy, juice!” Once given her precious cup, she pauses to relay a quick thank you (most of the time) and then proceeds to drain the cup of its content in less than a minute!
This morning, while watching Sugar Plum attempt to quench her seemingly endless thirst, I reflected on some of things I had recently thirsted for. I could think of several examples from this past weekend alone! While sitting at a traffic light on Friday, I imagined how great it would be to own the luxury vehicle that had pulled up next to me. On Saturday, we drove through an expensive housing development in our area and I found myself longing for a bigger house. And just yesterday, as I was being measured for a gown to wear in my best friend’s upcoming wedding, I yearned for the flawless figure of the model featured on the cover of the bridal magazine.
The Bible is clear about what I should thirst for and it is not luxury vehicles, fancy houses, or perfect figures. Though having those things is not wrong, the Bible tells us that we will be satisfied (filled), if we thirst for righteousness. Today, as I said my morning prayers, I thanked God for all the things He has given me, asked forgiveness for not honestly appreciating all that I have, and prayed that God would show me how to be more like Jesus. God directed my thoughts to the nine fruits of the spirit listed in Galatians 5:22 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control) and showed me that is where He wants my focus to be.
Now that my mind and heart are in the right place, I’m ready to begin a new week, one in which I focus on the nine character traits God wants to develop in me instead of the focusing on the world’s fleeting material goods. This week, I’m looking forward to the blessings that will come from doing things God’s way. Please keep me in your prayers!
