Mommy and Me

Posted by Andrea

Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bore you shall rejoice. (Proverbs 23:25)

Lately, Sweet Pea has been feeling a bit envious of her little sister. If I’m holding Sugar Plum, Sweet Pea informs me that I did not hold her today. If Sugar Plum gets a kiss from me, Sweet Pea rushes over to get one too. If I’m spoon feeding Sugar Plum, Sweet Pea needs to be spoon fed too!

Earlier this week, Sugar Plum took an extra long nap, so Sweet Pea and I had an opportunity to enjoy some extended one on one time together. It was a treat for both of us. We planted strawberry plants, iced cupcakes together, and enjoyed lots of tickling time on the couch. I read her God Gave Us You and reminded her of how much she is loved.

Though I’m still in the early miles of my motherhood journey, one of the important lessons I’ve already learned is the great value of spending one on one time with each of my children. Bonding by way of day to day interactions allows me to build unique relationships with each of my girls. Right now I’m laying a strong foundation so that in the years to come, I’ll be able to communicate with each of my daughters openly and effectively.

I truly enjoyed the “Mommy and Me” time Sweet Pea and I shared earlier this week and I’m looking forward to doing it again. I plan to incorporate a regular Mommy and Me time into both the girls’ schedules. During that time, we’ll relax and enjoy each other’s company and I’ll get to know and understand them better. I’m sure we’ll make lots of memories!

Valerie: I’m sure your little sister was just as busy trying to keep up with you!

e-Mom: Keep our strawberry plants in prayer! This is the first time we’ve done this!

You won’t regret this idea Andrea. Until I got re-married a couple of years ago, I only had one daughter, so it was easy to spend one-on-one time with her, but I knew the value of doing this with multiple children because I have two boys, and I’d always done this with them. They will never forget some of their memories with me with just them by themselves. They’re now 15 and 18 years old. Now, by marriage, I have another daughter, and I homeschool the two girls. I have shown my new daughter what it’s like to have a mommy that spends that one-on-one time with her, to make her feel special. She said that she had never experienced this before. I’m glad that I had the privilege of doing these things with her. I pray she never forgets.

Thanks so much for the encouraging words! It sounds like you have a beautiful family. (I’ve bookmarked your blog and I’ll be visiting!)

I’m glad to know that I’m doing the right thing. Sometimes I get so busy with “things” that it’s hard to make the time. I just want to wake up one day and find that the girls are all grown up and I missed their wonder years.

I don’t think any of our children will forget the memories we make with them. I know I haven’t. I still remember the “Girls’ Night In” I had with my mom as a girl. I happily recall the times my father took me out to breakfast and we simply talked and laughed. Our children will not forget.

We will officially begin our homeschool journey in September. If I need some advice, I know who to contact.

Thanks so much for the visit!
