Taste Tested Tuesday: Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Posted by Andrea

Once spring hits, my Crock Pot usually goes into hibernation. However a few weeks ago, it was “calling” me, so I pulled it out, and put it to good use. I made Sweet and Sour Meatballs, one of my favorite Crock Pot meals.

Whenever I make these meatballs, I usually double the amount of sauce and serve the meatballs over rice.

Sweet and Sour Sauce:
1 cup jellied cranberry sauce
½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoon grated or minced onion
1 teaspoon vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar

Combine all ingredients and simmer over low heat for 10-15 minutes. While sauce is simmering, prepare the meatballs.

Meatballs:
1 (20 ounce) package ground turkey (at least 7% fat)
1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
½ teaspoon sage
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons onion powder
2 tablespoons garlic powder
salt and pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl. Shape into meatballs and place them in Crock Pot. Pour sauce over the meatballs and cook on low for 3-4 hours.

Hi! I just started reading your blog and really enjoy it.
Would love to make this recipe soon…can you tell me about how many meatballs or servings you think this might make?

Jennifer, thank you for your visit. I’m glad you’re enjoying what you read.

The number of meatballs I get depends upon what I use to “scoop” them. When I use my large Pampered Chef scoop (holds 3 tablespoons), I get about 15-18 meatballs. If I use the smallest scoop (holds 1 tablespoon), I get twice as many and they’re cocktail size. I hope that helps.
