A Star Spangled Weekend

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. (Psalm 33:12)
A happy 4th of July holiday weekend has passed and we have a few more fun memories to tuck away and cherish.
On Thursday, I decorated the girls’ Radio Flyer wagon with patriotic bunting, sparkling garland, and one huge bow. Then, on Friday morning we left home early to join our church family in the community’s 4th of July parade. JT and I took turns pulling Sweet Pea and Sugar Plum along in the wagon and although it drizzled on us along parts of the parade route, we still had a great family outing.
A few hours later the skies cleared and the girls had a blast sliding down the small slide and making a big splash in their inflatable pool. This was particularly fun to watch because it was Sugar Plum’s first time down our “homemade” water slide. You can see that both girls had a great time!
As this 4th of July weekend wanes, our family is thankful for the many freedoms Americans enjoy because of the sacrifices others have made. However, we are most thankful for the freedom we have been offered because of Christ’s sacrifice for our sins on the cross at Calvary! As the fourth verse of My Country ‘Tis of Thee notes, God is the true author of liberty. What a blessing!
Our fathers’ God, to thee,
author of liberty, to thee we sing;
long may our land be bright
with freedom’s holy light;
protect us by thy might, great God, our King.
