A Monumental Occasion!

This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
For the first time in American history, an African American will be nominated for the highest office in the land, President of the United States. Such a monumental occasion is made all the more special because Barack Obama is delivering his acceptance speech on the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s historic I Have a Dream speech. Even Obama’s rival John McCain took a political pause to recognize the day with this television ad.
Today I spoke to my 86 year old grandfather and solicited his thoughts on this great day. When asked if he ever thought he’d see an African American nominated for President he said, “I’ve seen a lot, but I never thought I’d see this. Not in my lifetime. History is certainly being made today. I’m glad for him and all of us!”
JT brought home several newspapers today. I plan cut out and laminate the articles so when our girls our older we can share news articles about this historic day with them. whether you plan to vote for Barack Obama or not, it’s hard to deny that tonight is a night for the history books.
