Heart to Heart Conversations
Posted by AndreaIf I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (I Corinthians 13:3)
Valentine’s Day is almost here and lots of people are feeling the love this week. Though we may feel the love, some of us don’t always express our love to our spouses, family, and friends in ways they truly understand.
If you’re a bit tongued tied when it comes to love, you might want to learn more about Gary Chapman. His Love Language books have and continue to be best sellers offering wisdom on how to communicate with your loved ones effectively. Titles include The Love Languages of God, The Five Love Languages of Teenagers, The Five Love Languages of Children, The Five Love Languages of Singles, and The Five Love Languages of Apology.
Last February, JT and I sat down together and to discuss The Five Love Languages and each of us discovered our personal Love Language. Since then, we’ve tried to become more skilled at expressing our love to each other in the most effective way.
To get a sneak peak at your personal Love Language, check out the Love Languages Test then read The Five Love Languages to learn even more.

Thanks for sharing about the love languages. This is so important! My husband and I are continually learning about the different ways we show and receive love and it is truly eye opening. Looking back it is funny at how I could be working around the house (doing things – acts of service) to show my love to him and all he wants is for me to stop and hug him – affection! Thanks for the quiz link!
Joyfull, you and your hubby sound like me and my hubby! I’m an “acts of service” gal and he loves physical touch. Is that a man/woman thing or a JT/Andrea thing? I wonder!
We took this test in our moms’ group at church and I’ll never forget one response a mom made. She’s also an “acts of service” gal and responded that after a busy day, she’d really rather have her hubby touch the dishes than touch her with a big bear hug!
That gave us all a big chuckle as many of us have been there! Thanks for your visit!
Yes Andrea at the marriage conference Gary said that most women are acts of service and quality time and men tend to be touch. (I’m not sure if you were really wondering haha)
We went to see Chapman in 2006 for a marriage conference and it was really great. I had no idea my husband spoke acts of service..boy was this a hard pill for me to swallow haha because I’m there with your husband,”Joyful”
Thanks for reminding me of this Andrea:)
Monica, I didn’t realize he hosted marriage conferences until I visited his page again today! I can only imagine how terrific that experience must have been.
JT and I are trying to get to The Weekend to Remember conference when it comes to our area later on this year.
Also, I wanted you to know how beautiful I thought it was that on Monday night, you thanked God for giving you such a wonderful husband! A good man is such a blessing and I’m thrilled God has given you one too!
And knowing that so many women would like an acts of service kind of guy…I better take really good care of him huh. God is wonderful!
I didn’t think this acts of service/physical touch thing was just us. Neat information! Continue to take care of your hubby!
I love the 5 love languages. I’ve even used it on my kids and I know writers that use it when creating their characters. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
