I’m hosting Christmas dinner, so this week I’m planning the dinner menu. I like to serve beef, pork, and poultry, so it’s always a challenge for me to decide how to prepare each meat.
After taste, ease of preparation usually determines which meat recipe I’ll use. To make Christmas dinner prep easier for me, I plan to use my slow cookers to prepare a few dishes.
Enter this fabulous Slow Cooker Turkey Breast! It’s a great addition to the Christmas menu because it tastes delicious and pleases adults and children alike. Plus, after everything is tossed into the slow cooker, this is a hands off recipe, leaving me time to enjoy other Christmas festivities.
Cooking turkey breast in the slow cooker creates a flavorful, moist, and tender result. After the breast has cooked, you can thicken the slow cooker juices with cornstarch to make a tasty gravy.
This recipe requires a large slow cooker to hold the turkey breast so I use my 7 quart slow cooker. Most of the time, I use a bone in turkey breast, but if your slow cooker is smaller, a boneless turkey breast might fit better.
Slow Cooker Turkey Breast
- 6 lb turkey breast
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon sage
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced into thick rings
- 3 celery stalks, coarsely chopped
- 5 garlic cloves
- 1 (14 0z) can chicken broth
- ½ cup white wine
Wash and dry the turkey breast.
In a bowl, combine seasoned salt, parsley, basil, sage, thyme, black pepper, and garlic powder.
Rub the whole turkey breast with olive oil. Sprinkle the seasoning blend all over the turkey breast and under the skin.
Layer the bottom of the slow cooker with the onion, celery, and garlic cloves.
Place the turkey breast on top.
Slowly pour the chicken broth and white wine around the turkey breast, taking care not to rinse the seasonings off the turkey breast.
Place a lid on the slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours.
