A few weeks ago, my friend Tiffany announced that she had become a new soccer mom. On behalf of Soccer Moms everywhere, I welcome Tiffany into our soccer sorority and offer this heartfelt prayer for the Soccer Mom.
Dear Lord, thank you for The Soccer Mom, a lovely multi-tasking wonder unlike any of your other marvelous creations.
Please give her dexterity as she makes her early morning/late night journey to the soccer field, wielding a steaming cup of strong coffee in one hand and skillfully turning the steering wheel with the other hand.
Please provide her with supernatural vision as she keeps one eye on the future American soccer stars huddled in the backseat of her van/SUV and focuses the other eye on her GPS, a necessity for the Travel Soccer Mom.
Please give her safe travel and light traffic as she transports precious cargo to and fro, hither and yon, back and forth, near and far, in pursuit of fun, fitness, and trophies.
Please give her Samson-like strength as she walks along the sidelines, balancing a set of lawn chairs strapped on her back while lugging a heavy cooler full of snacks for soccer siblings who must sit through practices and games.
May soccer uniforms and shin guards always be clean and ready.
May her cell phone always have a full charge.
May the weather be temperate and may the skies be bright, blue, and free of rain.
May the scent of freshly mowed soccer fields not wreak havoc on her seasonal allergies.
May the bleachers, folding chairs, wooden benches, and blankets hastily tossed atop the damp grass cushion her behind with comfort.
May the lips of unruly, bragging, critical parents be silenced.
May her children always hear her cheers of encouragement ringing out loudly among the masses.
May the concession stand always be well stocked.
Lord, please watch over this amazing Soccer Mom! As she sacrifices time and energy to make sure her children are part of the game, never let her forget that these children are a gift from You, special blessings meant to be cherished and encouraged.
