Last week I introduced my newest series, Cake Mix Creations. Each Tuesday in July, I’m sharing a delicious recipe that uses a box of cake mix in a nontraditional way. Last week I showed you how to make awesome Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts using cake mix. Are you interested in another yummy cake mix creation? If so, read on.
Summer is a great time to gather with friends, family, and food. Whenever we’re invited to a gathering, I always like to arrive with something yummy to share. I have a sweet tooth, so a dessert is always my offering of choice and this Peach Dump Cake is one of my favorite desserts to share.
Peach Dump Cake tastes like it took a long time to prepare using complex ingredients. However, it’s an easy dessert that can be put together in less than five minutes and wows anyone who tastes it. I always recommend using fresh peaches so I prepare the Dump Cake using my recipe for Freezer Peach Pie Filling. If fresh peaches aren’t available, canned peaches may be used.
Though it is called a cake, Peach Dump is more like a cobbler. The peaches settle beneath a buttery golden brown blanket of sweet cake that melts into the peaches. It doesn’t get much better than that. Seriously, it just doesn’t.
Peach Dump Cake
2 (20 ounce) cans peaches
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon,or to taste
½ teaspoon nutmeg, or to taste
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package yellow cake mix
½ cup butter (1 stick)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick baking spray.
In a large bowl, combine the peaches, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Pour peaches into the baking dish.
Sprinkle cake mix evenly over peaches. Slice the butter into thin pats and place them in even rows on top of the cake mix.
Bake in the preheated oven until top of cake is golden brown, about 35 to 40 minutes.
