Open For Business!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

As you can probably see, I was quite busy this past weekend. I stayed up late on Saturday and Sunday (and have the bags under my eyes to prove it!) getting this new site up and running. I’m still unpacking, fine tuning, and learning my way around this new neighborhood, but Embracing Him is officially open for business. Bear with me as I put the finishing touches on everything. Like Goldilocks, I want things to be “just right”.

I believe that God has some big plans for this little blog, so I’m seeking God and praying daily to discover what those plans are. For right now, I’m utilizing the “baby steps” approach: taking my time, making sure I’m following the path God has set before me, and doing His will to the best of my ability. I’ll take my first real baby step next Monday, when I introduce a new feature called Monday Motivation, a weekly devotion designed to encourage you (and me too!).

Thanks for spending a bit of time here with me today. I certainly appreciate it! As I move forward in this new endeavor, please keep me and this blog in your prayers.

Six Years and Counting!

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! (Ephesians 4:9-10)

Today JT and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary! During today’s service, the church recognized August wedding anniversaries and presented all couples with roses as the congregation sang an anniversary song. (I so love stuff like that!)

Six years and two children later, JT and I are still dedicated to each other and our marriage remains a top priority. Over the past six years, God has used our marriage to draw us closer to Him and to further develop the fruit of the Spirit within us. Daily God is teaching us both about the importance of doing things His way.

Though we didn’t celebrate privately today, JT and I did enjoy a great Sunday with our girls. We hope to have a belated celebration later this week. Thanks to the generosity of some close friends, JT and I will be enjoying a cozy dinner at a restaurant we’ve been eyeing for a while. (Won’t you join us in praying that the babysitter is free some evening this week?) In the meantime, we’re looking forward to many, many more happy years together!

Hair We Go Again

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

I’ve been wearing my hair short since 1992 and have loved it. Over the years, I have told friends and family that I was going to grow my hair out. However, whenever my hair grew down and started touching my ears, I bolted back to the salon and the stylist promptly placated me with her scissors.

Then about a year ago, I got serious about growing out my hair and have since surprised those closest to me. Even my husband and my mother are impressed (albeit shocked!) with how patient I have been and how much I’ve allowed it to grow this year.

Now that my hair has grown to a manageable length, I want to save time and money by styling my hair myself at a time that’s most convenient for me, so I’ve assembled an arsenal of hair tools (a tabletop hood dryer, lots of magnetic rollers and clips, a fancy blow dryer, colorful spritz bottles, and a wide array of hair products) and have gotten started. Of course I’ll still let a professional apply the relaxers, but in between touchups, I’m taking matters into my own hands.

In an effort to learn more about hair care, I’ve searched the internet for reliable information. I’ve discovered quite a bit of good information, but my greatest internet find of all has been www.healthytextures.com where Gennifer Miller also known as Macherieamour takes a “do it yourself approach to healthier hair”. Her website is a goldmine of terrific information regarding the proper care of African American hair.

Thanks to inspiration from Gennifer, I’m ready to tackle my tresses. Pray for me (yes, I’m serious…pray!) as I embark upon this new adventure. And by the way, if you see me wearing a hat, don’t even think about asking me to take it off and please don’t ask me why I’m wearing it!
