In With the New!

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (Proverbs 24:3-4)

JT and I have new bedroom furniture! After nearly 6 years of marriage, we finally bid farewell to our hodge-podge bedroom furniture. Though mix and match and shabby chic may be popular themes on HGTV, neither theme was working well in our bedroom!

The former bedroom “set” (and I use the word ’set’ very, very loosely) was a not so harmonious mix of JT’s bachelor days and my bachelorette days. The pieces were functional but were a variety of colors, sizes, and styles that did not compliment one another. Our new matching bedroom set is dark walnut and features a gorgeous sleigh bed, a tall chest of drawers, a wide mirrored dresser, and a matching nightstand. (An added bonus is that the new bed is too high for Sweet Pea to climb up onto!)

In addition to the bedroom set, we also purchased a large comfortable chair. This chair is my favorite part of the bedroom! It’s the perfect place to curl up with a great book or snuggle with my honey. However, whenever I’m hanging out in my favorite chair, I’m usually on my laptop planning our weekly menus, chatting with the gals on my favorite forums, surfing the internet, or working on my current writing project.

If you ask JT what I’m doing while lounging in my chair, he may share a different opinion. He thinks I’m up there quietly doing some online shopping. This may or may not be true. On occasion, my browser may have been pointed towards…

No matter how we spend time in our bedroom, JT and I love our new furniture. We’re on our way to creating the perfect retreat just for us!

Spa Day…Yaaaay!

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. (Psalm 23:1-3)

My last post described how stressed and run down I was feeling. What a difference a few days make! Today I spent a couple of hours at the spa to use a gift certificate my honey gave to me. (Lord knows I LOVE that man!) I was treated like royalty and left the spa feeling like a new woman!

It has been quite a while since I’ve enjoyed a treat like this! As soon as I arrived I was greeted by my attendant, Christie. She escorted me to the changing room where she offered me a comfy robe and soft slippers. Once changed, I relaxed in a comfortable chair, soaked my feet in a Caribbean foot bath, and sipped a steaming cup of chamomile tea.

A short while later, Christie whisked me off to a quiet, softly lit room where she gave me a wonderful neck and shoulder massage, an awesome facial, a dynamic and MUCH needed eye treatment (I could pack groceries in the bags I’ve been sporting under my eyes this week!), and a soothing hand massage.

Though the massages and treatments are fabulous, one of my favorite parts of the spa experience occurs at the end of the session. The attendant leaves me alone in the room to relax for a little while. The calming nature music plays softly, the lights are turned down low, and herbal aromas swirl around room.

While relaxing today, I took some time to pray and thanked God for this time of rest. The Lord brought Psalm 23 to my mind and I recited it to myself. When I returned home, I read it again. I love the way this passage of scripture is translated in The Message:

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.

May your soul be refreshed this weekend and may God lead you in the right direction!
