Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. (Psalm 133:1)
Sweet Pea’s birthday is still a few days away, but we celebrated today. She and several friends got together for a birthday bash at a local pretzel factory. While the pretzels baked, the children decorated bags to carry their pretzels home in, sang Happy Birthday to Sweet Pea, and enjoyed cupcakes and pretzels.
I created a cupcake tower in blue and made a Barbie cake to match. Sweet Pea loved the Barbie cake and she and her friends gobbled up the cupcakes very quickly.
Our beautiful birthday girl takes a break from all the festivities to enjoy her snack: delicious soft pretzel nuggets and a cold drink box.
A couple of friends have fun working to shape their pretzel dough into works of art!
It’s clear Sugar Plum enjoyed her cupcake as well. If you look carefully you can spot lots of blue icing in her nostrils!
May you be blessed by the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and earth. (Psalm 115:15)
Happy birthday Sugar Plum! Our baby girl is now two years old! According to her pediatrician, Sugar Plum is a happy, healthy child. She’s now 3 feet tall and weighs 27 pounds. During today’s visit, she even received a vaccination without shedding any tears! What a big girl! In honor of this special day, we’re sharing some of our very favorite photos of Sugar Plum.
We also want to say Happy Birthday to Granddad. Sugar Plum and her great grandfather share the same birthday! This makes the day even more special!

Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
June was always a month of celebration during my childhood. My birthday is June 4, my brother’s birthday is June 8, and my mother’s birthday is June 18. Of course we also celebrated Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June, so throughout the month everyone in our household had a reason to party.
Since today is my birthday, I thought about my childhood birthday celebrations and recalled how happy those times were. My memories included birthday trips to The Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus which always came to our area in June and was a joint birthday celebration between my brother and me. My parents allowed us to invite a friend to join us at the circus and the evening culminated with pizza at our favorite pizza parlor.
Another birthday I fondly remember is my Sweet Sixteen. My parents threw a huge barbecue and all my friends and family came to celebrate. The highlight of this birthday was when we filled our long stemmed champagne glasses with punch and my mom offered a toast to me! I still recall feeling so “grown up” that day!
Now that I’m a wife and mother, my birthdays are celebrated a bit differently but are just as sweet. Today Sweet Pea offered me a plethora of kisses and hugs and Sugar Plum offered a block as a birthday present. As always, JT made me feel like the most important woman in the world.
No matter how many years go by, I still find that birthdays are best when spent with those you love!
