Taste Tested Tuesday: Apple Dumplings for the Gang
Posted by AndreaI never pass up a delicious dessert. Nor do I confine my desserts to seasons. This means I have no qualms about making a tangy key lime pie in February or serving a hearty bread pudding in the midst of the summer. I don’t discriminate against dessert.
Some may think a dessert of apple dumplings should be served on a crisp fall or snowy winter evening . Though this dessert screams “warmth” and “comfort”, I say, “Why wait? Enjoy it now!”
This is another awesome recipe from Allrecipes.com. It’s the most simple and most delicious apple dumpling recipe I’ve discovered and the sauce is heavenly!
If you want to serve friends or family a fast and an easy dessert but want them to think you’ve been hard at work in the kitchen for a few hours, give this recipe a try. You’ll love the speed of the recipe and those you serve it to will love the taste!
When preparing, adjust the amount of cinnamon and sugar to your liking. Add raisins or nuts to create a dessert you’ll truly enjoy!
Apple Dumplings for the Gang
1 (16 ounce) can refrigerated Pillsbury flaky biscuits
4 apples, peeled and diced
½ cup white sugar
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons water
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9×11 inch baking pan. Dice the apples into small pieces and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Separate the biscuit dough into 8 pieces and flatten each piece of dough into a circle. Place apples in the center of the dough and seal up the dough to make a pocket.
Place dumplings seam side down in the pan. Bake on one side for 20 minutes.
In small bowl, combine white sugar, brown sugar, melted butter and vanilla. Add water gradually until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. (You may need to use more or less water.)
Turn the dumplings over and pour the sauce over them. Bake for an additional 10 minutes. Sprinkle additional cinnamon on top if desired.
Serve hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
