By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (Proverbs 24:3-4)
JT and I have new bedroom furniture! After nearly 6 years of marriage, we finally bid farewell to our hodge-podge bedroom furniture. Though mix and match and shabby chic may be popular themes on HGTV, neither theme was working well in our bedroom!
The former bedroom “set” (and I use the word ’set’ very, very loosely) was a not so harmonious mix of JT’s bachelor days and my bachelorette days. The pieces were functional but were a variety of colors, sizes, and styles that did not compliment one another. Our new matching bedroom set is dark walnut and features a gorgeous sleigh bed, a tall chest of drawers, a wide mirrored dresser, and a matching nightstand. (An added bonus is that the new bed is too high for Sweet Pea to climb up onto!)
In addition to the bedroom set, we also purchased a large comfortable chair. This chair is my favorite part of the bedroom! It’s the perfect place to curl up with a great book or snuggle with my honey. However, whenever I’m hanging out in my favorite chair, I’m usually on my laptop planning our weekly menus, chatting with the gals on my favorite forums, surfing the internet, or working on my current writing project.
If you ask JT what I’m doing while lounging in my chair, he may share a different opinion. He thinks I’m up there quietly doing some online shopping. This may or may not be true. On occasion, my browser may have been pointed towards…

No matter how we spend time in our bedroom, JT and I love our new furniture. We’re on our way to creating the perfect retreat just for us!
He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. (Malachi 4:6a)
Last night, Sweet Pea had a date…with her Dad! She wore her hair in her favorite style, donned her nicest hair bows, and sported her favorite shirt, one that says My Dad is The Man. It was Dad’s Night at the preschool cooperative and Sweet Pea showed Daddy all the wonderful things about her co-op. They joined other Dads and their little ones at the co-op for stories, crafts, games, snacks, and songs. I truly wish I could have been there to watch!
Based on the smiles I saw on their faces when they returned, neither JT nor Sweet Pea was disappointed with their outing! When asked how things went, Sweet Pea told me that it was “Fun, fun, fun!” When I asked if she had brought any snack back for me she said, “No Mommy, it was Dad’s Night! Just for Daddies and kids. You can have snack tomorrow.” Well!
Later, I talked to JT about the event and he said it was great. He remarked about how much Sweet Pea has grown and how nice it was to have some one on one time with her. I can tell he’s looking forward to more Daddy and daughter dates. Sweet Pea is too!
I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine; He feedeth his flock among the lilies (Song of Solomon 6:3)
A week and a half ago, JT returned from work visibly upset. I was immediately concerned because it is rare for my husband to show such emotion. When I asked him what was wrong, he looked at me sadly and said, “I lost my wedding ring.” I wasn’t angry because the loss was obviously accidental and because JT looked so sad. In addition, I knew he felt guilty about losing the ring and I didn’t want to make him feel worse. Earlier in the month, JT had mentioned that the band was fitting more loosely and said he planned to have it resized. Unfortunately, the band slipped off his finger before he could do so.
I had no worries as this was a great reason to make a trip to the mall and shop! We packed up the kids and rolled into the mall to see about getting a new band for JT. Two factors made finding a new wedding band a bit more challenging. First, JT wears a ½ size which many jewelers do not have readily available. Second, the price of gold has skyrocketed and consequently so has the cost of gold jewelry. After trying on several different bands made of various metals and going into sticker shock several times, JT returned home empty handed (literally!).
The next day, JT went online and ordered a wedding band made of tungsten. The choice of tungsten surprised me because prior to our shopping trip, the last time I had heard the word tungsten I was sitting in a high school chemistry class studying the Periodic Table of the Elements. It turns out that tungsten is an attractive metal that is hard, heavy, durable (perfect for men!), and tarnish resistant. JT’s new ring is distinctive, looks great, and fits well. May he wear it in good health!
